I’m Aki. I edit and direct films. After six years of being in the US film industry, I decided to return to Tokyo and continue my career with Cutters. Being a mother and a filmmaker in Tokyo has given me a totally different perspective on my life.

I am attracted to all things classic, and I was plesantly surprised when I stumbled upon the Toei Aoyama Kitamachi area. It’s quiet, yet I smell the air of activity. I take violin lessons nearby, so before or after the lesson, I sometimes practice here.

I like places that have both a classic flavor as well as a multi-cultural atmosphere. Zabuton is just that - a cafe run by people working at a small hostel in the same building. There are travelers going in and out constantly, planning their trips for the day with cameras in their hands. That ambience makes me smile.
