A graduate of Kyoto’s Nakamura Sotoji Komuten engineering firm where he worked as an apprentice to master carpenters of the Sukiya style of Japanese architecture. After years of honing his craft with other design firms, he founded Fumihiko Sano studio PHENOMENON in 2011. He is known and lauded for his carpentry design and installations that integrate a contemporary feeling into traditional styles and aesthetics.
Here he takes us on a tour of his projects throughout various neighborhoods in Tokyo while explaining in intimate detail his method and process behind them.
